405 Main Street is the first of many affordable housing projects 3H Properties are developing in Hamilton and surrounding cities. RevelHouse has responded to this challenge with a human-centered design approach that results in incredibly efficient apartment layouts (that properly accommodate furnishings) and amenity areas that are located in locations to optimize chance social encounters amongst the residents. The building will incorporate the latest in sustainable design, focusing on passive design techniques. The building is also fully accessible, achieving a Gold Standard from the Rick Hansen Foundation. The project is very conscious of its context and hopes to contribute not only needed affordable units but be a positive addition to the neighborhood. Material choices reference Hamilton’s industrial past of brick and metal and subtle pops of colour are used to animate the streetscape of what is destined to be Hamilton’s most vibrant thoroughfare.
